The Song of PIBBA

Tinige’: Peter R. Onedera

Dandan: Joey Franquez

The winds blow chants from across the sea

Calling forth the islands of PIBBA’s family

And so we gather in knowledge, friendship,

and smiles

Of languages and cultures, a tribute to our isles.

Iokwe, raan annim, kaselehlia, alii, aloha

Olomwaay, hafa dei, tuwoh, mogethin, Talofa

The song of PIBBA rings forth loud and clear

We unite, we are one, there’s no lance,

there’s no spear

In our tongues we say we love you to one and all

We are strong, we are bold, we are proud,

we stand tall

Iokwe, raan annim, kaselehlia, alii, aloha

Olomwaay, hafa dei, tuwoh, mogethin, talofa

The song of PIBBA is strong through the waves

Our canoes, our coconuts, our heritage we praise

Our islands of PIBBA crisscross the blue sea

Bilingual-Bicultural, in us we trust, our destiny!

Iokwe, raan annim, kaselehlia, alii, aloha

Olomwaay, hafa dei, tuwoh, mogethin, Talofa

Life's a Struggle

A bump in the road
We might face,
Hope and faith
You shall embrace.
Times get tough on given days,
But know that
Everything will be okay.
All these obstacles
You will get through,
Within yourself
Please remain true.

Inspirational message:  No matter how many problems you face, there will always be a solution and you can overcome it.

DECISIONS

Life is full of choices
And full of hard decisions.
You hear all these voices,
And see all these visions.
But I know that you’ll come through
And that you will do what’s right.
Many dreams you shall pursue
In the tunnel, see the light
Avoid negativity
And embrace all possibilities.

(c) Roshella Calimquim
Dededo, Guam

Inspirational message:  You may get distracted easily in life and it might cause you to choose between hard decisions, but see the positive outcome of it. If there’s none, then you know you’re making a bad decision.

April is National Poetry Month

National Poetry Month*
Inaugurated by the Academy of American Poets in 1996, National Poetry Month (NPM) is now held every April, when schools, libraries, publishers, booksellers, literary organizations, and poets around the country come together to celebrate poetry and its vital importance in American culture.  Thousands of businesses and organizations participate through festivals, readings, workshops, book displays, and various other events.

What is National Poetry Month?
30 Ways to Celebrate NPM
Celebration Highlights

In celebration of National Poetry Month, the following is a poem I wrote.  Enjoy!

MY POETRY

My imagination runs wild,
As I grab a pen and write away.
The emotions linger about,
Pushing me to set it free.
It shall be set free in the words that I write.
It shall be set free in the feelings that I express.
It shall be set free, just by knowing it is mine.
My own thoughts,
My own words,
My own feelings --
That in itself is poetry,
Whether it is liked by others or not;
I know this to be true,
That as long as it is dear to my heart,
It's as special as can be,
And no one can deny that it is poetry!

HIM

TRUST in me --
Let HIM guide you.

BELIEVE in me --
Let HIM be with you.

Have FAITH in me --
Let HIM hold you.

HOPE is there --
Let HIM lead you.

CONFIDE in me --
Let HIM help you.

LOVE with me --
Let HIM comfort you.

STRIVE with me --
Give HIM your hand.

Behind Closed Doors

It was a trail of rocky roads to pass.
The hard cold air that made the light darken with every breath.
The last few strengths and hope where the little lights made the way possible.
Every surrounding had a little secret of good or bad.
Each dark lining was a problem that built up.

But with every confidence laid a light weight of freedom.
Time was yet to be on hand.
At the very end of the road was a bright light that washes away the coldness.

Deep within the tiniest light, forgiveness of life resolves the hardness of time.
As a result of every step with mistakes, every step of light, and every movement of false or correct
We are led to ways of half life.
A half life that true rocky roads turn into a trail of smooth gentle paths that makes hardship light at the end.

Inspirational Quote: Everyone faces a time in their life of darkness and light. Despite the challenges, in the end we will find a bright day that makes us proud that we made it through the tough times.
